On September 29, 2023, one of our dedicated employees Carly Thang seized the opportunity to make a difference in a cause close to her heart. The occasion was the first annual Mighty Murphy Golf Scramble, a charity event organized in collaboration with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF). Despite facing unexpected challenges due to stormy weather, this event proved to be a remarkable display of community support, all in pursuit of a shared goal: finding a cure for cystic fibrosis.
The Organization's Goals:
The Mighty Murphy Golf Scramble was conceived with a singular mission: to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic disorder that affects many individuals, including the daughter of Carly’s childhood friend. The scramble aimed to contribute to the ongoing research and development of treatments and therapies, inching closer to a day when CF stands for "Cure Found."
Connection to the Cause:
Carly’s connection to this cause runs deep, as it directly impacts a dear family friend’s 1 year old daughter. The center of this event was little Murphy, she battles cystic fibrosis daily, and her parents are highlighting the urgency of finding a cure. They recognized that one of the most effective ways to advance the cause was through fundraising efforts, and the Mighty Murphy Golf Scramble presented an excellent opportunity to do just that.
A Change in Plans:
Originally intended to be a day of golf and a silent auction at Fox Hollow Golf Course, the event had to adapt to Mother Nature's unpredictable temperament. Stormy weather forced the organizers to cancel the golf portion of the event and pivot to a bags/cornhole tournament. Despite this change, the community's spirit remained unwavering. As Carly noted, "It was a fun event for me because I got to see a lot of friends I grew up with. It was heartwarming to see us all of us come back together as adults to support our friend and his family.” The event truly showcased the strength of community bonds formed over the years.
Carly and her partner Cody played under the team name ‘Tiny’s Parents’ in honor of their own fur baby Cyber Advisors CHO Bear. When asked about how they did after the event pivoted to a cornhole tournament, Carly laughed and said “We got out VERY early, but competition was fierce!”
The Faces Behind the Cause:
Gareth and Madison Doyle were at the heart of the event. Their determination and dedication to finding a cure for their daughter Murphy, was an inspiration to all in attendance. Madison, when talking about her commitment to the cause remains unwavering saying, "We are not going to stop until CF stands for Cure Found."
